About: Sudsanan
Sudsanan was formed in 1998 in the northern city of Chiangmai, Thailand. Their unique style fuses traditional North East Thai sounds with various world instruments. The two founding band members Chaiwat(Chuat) Mattitatao and Arun(Huak) Srisawat perform with a various line-up to blend their talents as poets, songwriters and musicians.
Both artists are from the rural North Eastern province of Isan who first met whilst gigging in Bangkok. They initially began playing together at bars, clubs and music festivals in Bangkok and this eventually lead to the creation of Sudsanan. They merged their passion for traditional instruments from their region and integrated the universal sound of the guitar to create a progressive modern style of Thai music. The band Sudsanan was named after the melody that was traditionally played on a bamboo pipe in the North East province of Isaan.
Sudsanan has a reputation as a band with a moral conscience and performs at various concerts that aim to raise social awareness on a broad spectrum of human rights and environmental issues. They are also active members of the Chiangmai Independent Artists (CIA) group who perform regular concerts and produce many compilation CDs which aim to inform and inspire the public about various social issues.
